Hurst trim ring re-plating?

I have a set of Hurst wheels I restored 30+ years ago. I had the trim rings re-chromed back then ...well they need to be redone again. The plater I used back then is long gone...

Anyone have experience with this project? Am I better off at $500 just to buy a re-pop set of rings from The Parts Place? And experience on how those look/fit? Thanks. Jim

Hurst trim ring replating

I bought a set of the reproduction trim rings maybe 15 years ago. I had no original rings to compare them to, but I recall the reproductions were a very, very, very tight fit. There were several points during the installation that I doubted I would ever get them fully seated without denting the hell out of all four of them. Took a long time and often required more force than would seem reasonable to get them on. I safety wired them once I finally got them on instead of using the clips. That was pretty laughable given how hard it was to get them on. No chance in hell they could ever fly off. Need new tires on these wheels now, but really dread trying to get the rings back off then on again. Be a miracle to get this done without damaging something I’m thinking.
