Tricks to Install 1970 GTO Woodgrain Dash Insert?
Time to install a new woodgrain dash insert/applique and it looks easy to screw up as if its off in the slightest where it first "touches down" it will be off as it goes around the recessed gauge pods, etc.
What I've been able to find in doing searches is that the old one must be scraped off entirely and any unlevel areas repaired or the new one will highlight those imperftections. Then some wax and grease remover for the old adhesive, etc. I have some old gel for installing trans am hood birds and it seems like it would help here as well. One installer for hood birds I once hired just used a water and soap solution. It looks like this can easily be off and create an ugly headach and re-order. Any suggestions, or am I on the correct path here? Thank you! |
