Why?!

This site really pisses me off sometimes!

I just spent 25 minutes putting together a reply to a post and I went to submit it and the site sent me through the verification process again and I lost all of it, I could not arrow back to it once it let me back on the site.

KS circutguy 05-10-2026 06:51 AM

I Always copy the reply to keep it till if it doesn't post, especially if it's an important lengthy response.;)

3X24SPD 05-10-2026 06:54 AM

That's been happening for years.
Only takes once and I don't make the same mistake again.

Before you hit submit, just select & right click copy the entire text.
If it hoses- you can just hit reply again- and paste what you just copied into the blank text box.
.
Either that, or just type out your response if it's lengthy in Word- and then Copy/Paste.

78w72 05-10-2026 09:43 AM

Ive had that happen a lot, after about 15 minutes of browsing when i make a post it use to make me do that... but after re-verifying the post is always there, never lost it.

But like I mentioned on another "forum connection" thread... i no longer have to check the verification box each day on a new log in, it just lets me get past it without even checking the box. And its not any change I did, im on the same PC & browser and all settings like cookies are the same theyve always been, just dont have to verify anymore.

That has not been happening "for years"... this site has only had the verification thing for like 6 months.

I've noticed I have to ck the box each time I log on. Before say a month occasionally. System must be inundated. I ve lost responses also sometimes I redo other times i dont. Life i guess.

I think the problem is when you refresh to post and too much time has gone by, the site signs you out. The new verification probably does not help matters much either. As others mentioned, select and copy your post to your clip board if posting a higher effort post. At least you will recover your information and takes almost no time to do.

There may be a notable distinction here.

When you log onto the forum, do you click the box to "Remember me" ?

If not, do it.

The "extra" Cloudflare cookies are temporary and seems only minutes before requiring a refresh of your humanity card. The Cloudflare "manual" box has been kind of random for me, but most of the time it doesn't make me check it again. If it can verify based on some mystical browser stuff, it won't make you click the box. Whether it makes you click a box or not, it is still going to refresh if you take a while to write a post or wander off to another task.

I always log in with "Remember me" so have never been booted off the site by the Cloudflare refresh. I won't say never, but it is rare for me to lose draft text. I do highlight and copy though, just in case... good insurance. Also, I can't post under 3 paragraphs.

I wonder if the Cloudflare refresh is booting you off the forum and making you log in again? If it is, this might explain the lost text ?

?????

LOL... I just hit the "Preview Post" and Cloudflare refreshed. No box, and I did NOT lose this draft...

Mike

Thanks fot the tip Shiny. No way I am leaving a web browser full of cookies to save one login step. The forum has been the same for me for 20ish years too and have no issues managing my privacy settings.

In my case, the site only signs me out after I take a long time writing a post. If it were happening all the time that would be another story but that is not the case here.

The "timing out" situation when making a lengthy (or interrupted) reply has been happening for years.

Trulyvintage 05-10-2026 02:00 PM

When I reply to a post I usually
tap the “ reply “ button twice
to make sure it posts.
Forum software will not allow
a duplicate post post, so there
is just one post created.

I find it best to compose lengthy posts in another program like word or outlook and once I've completed the composition I copy and paste it here.

I do that at times as well.;)

steve25 05-10-2026 06:49 PM

Well I was talking about posting from my iPhone.

I got the lengthy post up today finally with out being sent packing by previewing what I was writing like every 3 minutes.

That has never happened to me, and Ive posted long replies many times... been on here almost 20 years. Only since the cloudflare thing have I had it require re verification on a long post or after browing for ~15 mins then trying to make a post... but it doesnt or hasnt done that for awhile now.

And the post I quoted was replying to Steve who mentioned the re verification for cloudflare after writing up a post, saying thats been happening for years.

KS circutguy 05-11-2026 11:06 AM

Dude, just because it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

I also copy and past my messages because of loss

Before Cloudflare, my messages would expire before I posted them due to the amount of time that I took to post.

It was difficult for me to attempt to reproduce the original content to the point that I just said the heck with it.

I then got into the habit of copying and pasting into Notepad when I thought that I was taking to much time to post a large message, or if I stepped away from the keyboard.

Not that my posts were really important, it's when the messages consisted of a lot of details that would be a pain to recollect. More inconvenience than was worth the effort. That's probably why I don't have many posts; because I said, " The hell with it".

Like for this message, I used Ctrl A > Ctrl C to select all and copy, and Ctrl P to paste somewhere in case.

I'm not try to lecture as if I am a genius. I just know the feeling when the original words are lost.

The second I have to hold a site's hand while I try to use it, is the second I start losing interest.

This site used to run so smoothly compared to some other sites, but over the last year or so it has become rather annoying.

Hate to see it

FWIW, below is my post from 2020 about this problem. As I now see, it keeps others from contributing for the same reason. In some cases I have saved my post to Word, then copied and pasted into a response. After jumping those hoops and getting no response for the efforts, I decided to speak one-to-one with people needing body work help. Hopefully I have helped some members over the years that I have been here.
Next month I will have 51 years in the body/paint and restoration business. I certainly don't have all of the answers and don't know it all. But I have helped when I could.
And now I am going to save this response to Word so that it isn't lost. Again.
