TH350 removal
 

I am removing my TH350 with the engine in my 69' Firebird.

I want to make sure I am not forgetting anything... please talk to me like I am an idiot. You won't hurt my feelings!

Here is what I think I need to do:

-I will drain the fluid.

-I disconnected some sort of linkage bracket connected to the tranny on the drivers side. It was not connected to anything and I don't know what it is?

-I will disconnect the various brackets and connections on the passenger side of the tranny.

- I will disconnect the cooler lines to the radiator and from the tranny.

- I disconnected the kick down cable from the carb.

- I removed the vaccum line to the tranny from the car.

- I will unbolt from the crossmember.

Obviously the drive shaft will come off and I will pull the yoke.

Then away we go?

Don't forget the 3 torque converter bolts.

And disconnect speedometer cable at the tranny.

He does not need to remove the torque converter bolts since if I read him right he’s pulling the engine and trans together.

Unclear if you're planning on pulling the engine with it - if so you would need to unbolt motor mounts, exhaust head pipes, electrical connections, PS lines, remove radiator and heater hoses, remove fan, remove hood, remove radiator.

If just the trans, the bellhousing bolts, torque converter bolts as mentioned above, and if you get a plug for the tail shaft seal, no need to drain the trans fluid. Like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/18348949362...fd7d3e5b1189c7

OK - I've pulled the one in my bird numerous times as a combo by myself. An engine tilter will help you, and make the job quite easy: https://www.grainger.com/product/848...37a409ffbba6d4

With or without the engine, the transmission tail shaft plug will eliminate need to drain fluid.

Body to engine/trans ground straps. Since the engine/trans will require tilting I suggest removing the distributor. Also, I've always removed the carb, just in case.

I would generally agree with this, but sometimes it's a real pain to turn the crank and unbolt the converter bolts while engine is hanging or on the ground. So decide before which way to do this?

One other thing if pulling it all together, there are usually some ground wires/cables that need undone. Some may be 'hiding'.
