65 3 speed stick console wiring
 

These are on my 65 console I was cleaning up. The front bulb does not seem to have a place. The switch is there and on the diagrams I have seen it is listed as switch/bulb.
Does this look correct>

Technically the harness used on your console if for the AT.
That said, I've seen several that had the same harness.

You can leave the bulb for the shift indicator out and use as is, or you can remove the socket altogether and splice the wire.

Jeff thanks. It did look more like an auto bulb harness to me. Is there supposed to be a light in the console the switch activates? The diagrams I have seen in the GTO Restoration book even the stick console have a switch they list as "switch and lamp asm". I just do not see a slot/hole of a bulb for a "lamp".

I completely agree with Jeff as I have seen many manual shift consoles having the harness with the bulb for the automatic shift indicator illumination.

I’d just leave it as is without the bulb as it won’t effect anything.

Thanks for the additional pictures. That is the diagram I was looking at #7 and #13 listed as "switch lamp asm".
Weird mine had a bulb in it, maybe burned out.
FWIW there is a 3M pinstriping masking tape that is the exact width of the fins. It was a little wide on the tail panel fins but worked OK. Just a shame these old chromed pot metal bubble under the chrome.

What light does that switch activate? the rear console light? Seems weird it would activate when the console is open and not courtesy lights on.

No one with a 65 can say what light comes on?

Following is how each console light functions:

Note: These light functions are based on factory correct wiring.

1. As previously stated, the "front bulb" is for illuminating the shift indicator lens for an automatic car. It comes on with the headlight switch in either the first or second detent position. Leave the bulb out or remove the socket for a manual transmission. The OEM bulb is #1895.

2. The far rear socket is for the courtesy light at the rear of the console. It comes on when the doors are opened along with the under dash courtesy light. The OEM bulb is #89.

3. The console compartment light shown as #13 on the second diagram provides light for the compartment when the console lid is opened. The plunger acts as the switch and operates (and actually is identical) to the dash glove box light. Light comes on when lid is opened and light goes off when lid is closed. The OEM bulb is #53. 4. The item labeled #7 on the diagram is part of an extension harness that I am not familiar with. I have restored numerous consoles and know the console wiring above very well, But the extension harness connects to the shifter that I have not dealt with. My guess is that harness would be only be used for the optional backup lights in '65. Hopefully someone more familiar with the shifter wiring connection can clarify that assumption.

Thanks that clears it up with the description and close up! The close up of that harness I can see the bulb missing in my harness maybe not installed but one is in the extra socket! And makes sense why teh black and white diagram says switch lamp
