Why do they do this?

Yesterday I had a problem with my cell phone after an update. Went to the cell phone store. Found that they had moved all of the repair service to a small local shop. They gave me a paper with the shop address. The street address was 320. Went to the street, the first number that was visible from the street was 209. Drove slowly looking for the number. The next number that I could see was 437. I parked and walked back to find the shop. When I found it, it was 1 inch high lettering in the glass of the front door. It wasn't just the shop I was looking for, all of the stores on that street had very small street numbers that were impossible to see from the street. I guess the street number on a store is on a need to know statis. And the general public doesn't need to know.

Many places are placing ridiculous requirements for signs and street numbers. I assume that they figure people will rely on GPS and not look around. I prefer to look around.

I visited properties daily for work, I would ask the client if the property has a number on it and maybe 1/3 the time they would say NO. I would ask how will I find it ? The ridiculous answers I got would be a Red Flag as to if I really wanted to work for them.

side note - many sleazy criminal types have no house numbers so the guy delivering the signed receipt for Court Action becomes difficult
