Oh no cars no longer moving
 

77 pontiac lemans I just replaced the steering column and now the car won't move. It will go in gear it just won't move. I've checked the transmission fluid and it's a tad overfilled. But I don't think that should been an issue. Any reason why it's not moving.

Brake locked? Is the linkage connected? When did it last move on it's own power?

It Moved on it's own power a couple of weeks ago. That's when I realized I desperately needed a new column. I think the linkage is connected as I hear clunk when its going in gear. Plus I put a brand new cotter pin on it. It was puking transmission fluid pretty bad but I don't think that would hurt it. As i was still able to put in gear just fine.

Check your transmission fluid level.
 

You say the transmission was 'puking fluid'. That's NEVER a good thing.

Make sure your transmission fluid is filled up to where it needs to be.

If it's really low, it might not move, even if the linkage is in the correct spot for the gear.

If it's leaking from the pan gasket or dipstick seal, transmission fluid is probably too low even if it's in gear. Not sure what required column replacement, most I've really seen fail on the GM tilt columns of that era is the bolts come loose inside and it flops around. If you unbolted the brake pedal bracket, make sure it's properly reassrmbled and the brakes aren't engaged.

Well update it was low on fluid I've got to replace one of my tranny cooler fittings. But after that it should be fine.

BTW the column definitely needed replaced as the bushing inside the column was rotted causing the whole shaft to rock. I tried tighten up the tilt mechanism to no fix wheel still flopped around. I just said screw it and replaced it. For all the people that want a write up i can do that.
