66 GTO with a/c cylinder head bolts

2 Attachment(s)
Years ago some genius rebuilt the engine in my car. It was a very half —- effort that included bolting on the heads with whatever style bolt was laying around. I was aware of this issue when I disassembled the engine to give it a professional rebuild. I returned all the head bolts to the locations they came from, so now I need to get this back to what is correct. On the driver side of the engine #6 7 8 and 9 appear correct. 7 is a studded bolt that retains the negative battery cable. 9 is a studded bolt that retains the metal tube through which the positive battery cable and the starter wiring harness are routed down to the starter. 10 should be a hex head bolt, not the studded version that was installed. Does all this sound right for the driver side?

On the passenger side #1 should be a hex head bolt, not the studded version installed. 4 and 5 retain the a/c compressor bracket. One is a hex head and one is a studded bolt. Does the studded bolt go in position 4 or 5? (Ignore how they are located in the photo. We did not have the a/c bracket handy when the head was installed so we fabbed up 2 spacers just to get the head torqued down)

I can't remember which passenger side bolt is which, but if I may offer a little piece of advice; before you install the motor put the A/C bracket on and see if you can get a spark plug socket on the plug. I couldn't so I slightly ground the bracket out enough to get a spark plug socket through it. It was either that or remove the bracket to change that plug. I can check my 67 tomorrow to see what went where if you still need the info.

Yes, the a/c bracket will go on once I’m sure about the correct placement of the 2 bolts that secure it; before the engine gets installed. Let me know what your engine reveals regarding these lower head bolts on driver and passenger side.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. #s 4, 7 and 9 are studs. The rest are regular bolts.

Thanks very much. I’m gradually getting this figured out.
