Do we know how tall the 14" element is they are using? When they say 2 elements were used do they mean a total of 6 inches tall stack of filter?
Im guessing its probably 2" and they are stacking to 4" total |
Probably also important to note that the air cleaner probably needs to flow additional CFM over what the engine can/does consume in order not to be a restriction.
K&N uses an equation to approximate necessary filter size (based on cotton-gauze type filters) for a specific engine. Area of the filter = CID*RPM/20839. For my 465 that I shift at 6000 rpm, that will require a filter area of 133.88 sq in. For a standard 14" filter, you need to figure out how tall it should be. Height = Area/3.1416x14 + .75 to account for sealing ring. For my engine I need a filter that is 14" round and 3.8" tall. So a pretty standard 14x4" filter element provides enough breath for my engine based on K&N's research. |
