Paint removal on plastic shroud
 

Hi guys my 70 has a good fan shroud, unfortunatly it has some high glass black paint overspray on it. Is there a way to remove this an still keep an oem matte finish on it and not destroying the shroud? ? or am I just out of luck? The shroud is plastic or whatever the oem was. Thanks

Commercial paint stripper might be too harsh on the plastic shroud. Try some spray-foam oven cleaner on a small, hidden area first. Should wrinkle the paint after a few minutes and wash off with a hand-held sprayer on a garden hose. Good luck!

I’ve used purple power as well as Citristrip (comes in plastic bottle) without damage on plastics. Try in a spot hard to see.

brake fluid, I have used it to remove paint from interior panels with no problems

I've used laquer thinner or enamel reducer, try it on a hidden area first to make sure it doesn't change the finish too much. I've also used brake cleaner on a rag as it's not as "strong" as the other solvents.

Brake cleadner, never tried it, but worth a shot.

I can tell you the original plastic wheel well spoilers on a 78 TA do NOT like paint stripper!

perhaps a chemical stripper made for boats and vettes?
