1971 GTO spare tire location in trunk

Have had several '71 GTOs but this one is the only one that came with the 14x7 honeycomb wheels from the factory. I see there is an additional location for the spare tire hold down rod situated in the forward section of the center of the trunk and I am uncertain if that is a provision for the spare tire that may be on a honeycomb wheel to be mounted to or something else? I am guessing that since the polycast wheel might suffer damage if laid upside down on the jack assembly that maybe the two were separated and the jack went in the usual location on the right side of the trunk floor and the spare in the center forward position. This is assuming that if the car came with honeycomb wheels that the spare would also be a honeycomb wheel. Anyone else seen or have a car with honeycomb wheels and an extra tie down location in the truck. Also, the tie down in the center of the trunk is attached with 4 screws. thanks for any insight on this!

Perhaps I made a mess of this question so I will try again. Does anyone know if a 71 or 72 GTO that was factory equipped with the honeycomb wheels also would have come with a honeycomb wheel for the spare tire? Also, if the 71/72 GTO did come with a honeycomb wheel for a spare, was it mounted in a different location in the trunk than the standard wheel would have been mounted in?

I have a '71 GT-37 that was ordered with 14x7 Honeys and it has the original 14x7 Honey spare in the standard location. It is the same location on the right side for all wheel types (standard, Rally II, & Honeycomb) with the J-hook that goes thru the hoop on the trunk floor.

Can you show a picture of the center tie down?

I appreciate the reply as this answers a lot of my questions. Is the spare in your car mounted with the polycast side up or down? I am not good at posting pics on here but I can e-mail one or two pics to you if I can get an address. Thanks.

Here’s a pic he sent. Only thing I can think of is space saver maybe? I would think if this was from the factory, it would have spatter paint over it.

Have owned several '71 & '72 performance Pontiac A-bodies with factory installed Honeycomb wheels, & as a trunk spare, the most original of the bunch were mounted faced down.

Thanks for all the help. Best I can figure is the extra bracket was added by a previous owner for some reason or another, so I have removed it and will use the original spare location.
