77 Trans Am Cluster Help or Diagram
1 Attachment(s)
Howdy, replacing the circuit board in my cluster, also replacing some bulbs. I am curious what the bulb circled in red is for and what purpose the metal is supposed to have. There was nothing attached to it when I pulled the cluster. There is evidence that someone else has been in this dash before though. Thanks.

Looks like the fiber optic fitting for the ash tray light, there should be a long fiber optic wire coming out of the metal housing that goes to the ash tray.
|
Yup, for the Fiberoptic .
|
Appreciate the clarification. Car doesn't seem to still have that wire, my harness is a mess from the previous owners. Just making sure it wasn't anything too important.
|
The fiber optic cable isn't a 'wire' so probably not included in a wiring harness.
The fiber optic cable goes to the back of the lighter which is probably still there unless lighter is removed? |
A fiber optic cable looks like monofilament fishing line that’s black most times.

My 1981 has two of those but appear to be attached to regular wires. One one the standard 8 illumination bulb, black drk. blue, and the other to the 33 brake light bulb , black lgt blue, that looks to be a ground. The warning can be activated by the emergency brake on or pressure issues with the combination valve.
Not sure why the manual has the gauge circuit upside down. |
That's so when you've got your head crammed under the dash it looks right side up. 😀
