Firebird blinkers not working
 

Had some chassis work done to my Firebird and now the blinkers and flashers are dead, they do nothing. Is there a fuse? Where do they get power from? If the blinker module is dead does that kill the system (I thought they still lit but just don't blink?)? Thoughts??

Need to start with a wiring diagram, but to do that I'd need to know what year Firebird.

Do the brake lights work? May be as simple as the turn signal switch unplugged or fuse blown in the fuse panel. Check for power at all the fuses with the ignition on, most should have power. If there's no power at the fuses, could be a bad fusible link at the starter, or possibly disconnected fusible link at the starter if it was removed during the last round of work.

Brake lights work.
Noticed today that tail lights are always on.

There is a fuse marked "Dir Sig" in the wiring diagram. It being bad/missing wouldn't keep the brakes lights from working, so check it first.

All this assumes the wiring harness hasn't been hacked:

Because the brake lights work, the problem is at the turn signal switch, flasher or power to the flasher.

Do the front turn signals come on?

Do the turn signal indicator lamps on the dash come on?

Sounds like everything in the back is grounding through the taillight harness or something is plugged into the wrong place. As posted above, check the grounds, often the ground wire is forgotten when things are bolted back together. Not sure what chassis work was done, but some of the best welders I've known were the worst at electrical work. If I remember right, rear harness goes down the floor pan, then up and over the rear wheel tub on the driver's side. Look for damage to the harness, harness pinched in the trunk hinge/bolts, and under the rear seat frames. Also any non factory splices that may have been pulled apart and need to be repaired.

He said the brake lamps are working.

Same ground for the rear turn signal/brake lamps.

Same power from turn signal switch to rear turn signal/brake lamps.

Problem is from the turn signal switch to the turn signal fuse, including wiring there and the flasher.

No signal on dash.
No front signals

I'm wondering if the brake lights are grounding through another circuit because he says that the tail lights are illuminated at all times. Need to know if the brake light will turn off on either side if the turn signal switch is activated for that side.

Do the backup lights work? They get their power from the same wire that feeds the turn signal flasher.

Have you replaced the DIR SIG fuse? Did it blow again?

Further troubleshooting will require a voltmeter or a test lamp. Do you have either? Can you get to the 11 pin electrical connector going into the steering column?

Another question is "What is Illuminated at all times" mean?

Do the tail lights remain on with the key in your pocket or are the tail lights on when the key is on?

More troubleshooting will have to wait for a bit as the car is at the chassis shop again.
But this is a race car so as soon as the main power switch to the car is turned on the tail lights come.
As far as I know the brakes and tail lights function as stated no matter if the turn signal is activated or not but I will verify that just to be sure once I get it back. I'll also locate that fuse and check it (I wasn't aware of that fire before)

Brakelight switch could be out of adjustment.

Its a broken lead or no ground.
Use a test light for power to ground.
