2nd Gen Car Trailering
 

Taking my 1973 Tran Am to a show via my truck and a car trailer. 4 hour trip each way to Hot August Nights in Reno, NV. Any tips, tricks or do not leave home without it suggestions?

Nothing special, but check the dates on the trailer tires as well as overall condition before leaving.

Have trailer tires spares. I always had two.

I would if it was just me but the wife won't ride in it that long!

I take spare wheel bearings,grease,cotter pins,2 trailer spares,air tank,4x4 blocks of wood.Floor jack.over the years I've had to use these things. Pull car forward on trailer. I've seen guys back on.only time I did that I had a 74 TA 'bare' shell i picked up in Dayton. Loaded it rear on first for the weight on tongue. Besides it was easier to back up to the sellers trailer and just roll ot on mine.No problems at all. I have a 2500 GMC.

Jack and a spare. If you have an electric impact gun, take that with the appropriate sockets for both the trailer and the truck.

Other than that, you should be fine.

You have a 5 speed... drive it...

A really nice car, & you have a nice truck & a proper trailer(?)... def use your tow rig!

Agree on all the trailer prechecks, besides a normal tool bag, smart to have a trailering go bag, minimum of an extra wheel bearing,
correct grease cap, small tub of bearing grease, & a few strips of emery cloth. One of the biggest issues with trailering 2nd Gen T/A's is carefully loading and unloading them,
Got to be careful that the front chin spoiler does not come close to scraping. on my open trailer several lengths of 2X12's that help ease the incline.

Beware of road construction on I 80 east of Colfax. My wife came up that way yesterday and said it was a mess almost all the way to Donner Summit with reduced lanes.
