Ride height on ‘55. Can I lower the front?
 

I guess I have a couple questions.
My ‘55 Catalina has that Carolina squat going on. The front sits higher than the back.
I like the height of the back, so want to lower the front. So I guess I need to find out what the measurements are for stock front and back ride height. I know I found this info years ago for my GTO in one of my manuals, but can’t find it for my 55.
So next question is, if the measurement for the front comes out close to stock, does anyone make a lowering spring? I see SO many posts these days with guys complaining about aftermarket springs not actually sitting at the height they are advertised to sit at.

I think these pictures will show it a little better. Would like front about 2” lower.

If you can find an old spring catalog, they would list all the specs for their springs. Figure out the part number for the stock ones, the old catalogs would list everything from diameter to spring rate, ends and length. Find a spring with the same specs, 2" shorter. I have no idea where my old trw catalog is that I used, after I sold my father's house a couple years ago I haven't found half my stuff yet. I could really use it so I could figure out a spring for my Catalina, back is where I want it but the front needs to come up an inch.

Try contacting Eaton Detroit Spring. They have specs for the original springs and can make custom springs based on the original spring rates.

I had a ‘57 Bel Air many years ago that I lowered using 2nd-gen F-body front springs.

You could likely do it on the cheap with a pair of good used springs, as long as they’re the same diameter they’ll work.

It’s either that or roll the dice on expensive aftermarket springs.

Also lowered the front of my ‘64 GTO with a new pair ($60 at the time) of ‘67 Firebird springs. So there’s a lot of interchangeability with GM front springs.

Cut 1 coil.
Easiest way to do it is to undo the inner mount bolts & lower the A frame, no need to get involved with the King pin :)
