Slotted chome valve cover braces-brand?
I have some older chrome valve cover braces they were slotted 5/16 so they could sit flush. The Summit and Moroso I just got are not and do not fit the recess on the chrome repop valve covers. The hole needs to be slotted to move them out vs just grinding on the outside radius. Anyone have a brand?

Are you talking about the Corvair-style load spreaders? Chevy small-block guys used them, and when they got popular, companies started stamping them to fit BBC and other engine families.
Sort-of like these: https://static.summitracing.com/glob...es72676_xl.jpg |
I picked up a set from a guy on eBay that fabricates them. Not cheap, but I'd rather pay more for something made here by American hands. Im not disappointed.

Yes those type but as you look at the picture it is a round hole. On the Pontiac valve covers the radius around the bolt recess in the valve cover will not allow it to actually be on the flat surface of the valve cover unless it is slotted. Even grinding the outer portion the radius doe not fit. Not sure what brand I got that is slotted so the whole thing slides out some

I guess your talking about using such on original Pontiac valve covers because I have used the type as in the photo on Moroso steel covers and cast aluminum covers.
If I recall right both the spreaders and the cast aluminum covers were made by Cal Custom, although I am sure Mr Gasket offered the spreaders also. I don’t know if that company is still around, but once again if I recall right the cast covers I got thru good old J.C Whitney. |
I use those on the chrome valve covers I have, they look original and the spreaders fit fine.

Have several skinpacked cards of Moroso BBC chrome spreaders from the late 70's/Green Light Auto cleanout.
Believe the radius is bigger on them than the stamping on Pontiac stamped covers. |
Back in the early 70s I bought GM corvair clamps drilled to fit stock steel covers

I can use a small 5/16 end mill in my drill press and make a slot but be easier to find the ones I used on the 455 I just dynoed.

I think those are the ones I have. I'll shoot a picture of the slotted one.
