Fuel filter bracket
 

Where does the fuel filter bracket mount on a 1964 full size Pontiac that uses a filter with a return line? I’m trying to install a return line on a car that never had one. I know it mounts beside the timing cover but it doesn’t seem to fit on any of the bolts. Also where does the little tab for the return line from the filter attach? Thanks.

Does your 1964 have vacuum operated wipers?

No it doesn’t

Looks like one of the top bolts for timing cover to block. Here are several. Some original some the way added mine.

From what I can see it connects to the timing cover stud. I have tried connecting it to that and everything else I can find. It won’t fit. I have 2 1964 GP’s and it won’t fit either. The one that I am working on has all the original parts. Everything is the same except for the engine block. The 2nd car is an unmolested car that has not been on the road since 1969. Both are California cars. The first has 1 belt driving the alternator and one driving the PS. The other has 2 belts both driving the alternator and the power steering. The fuel filter bracket hits the power steering pump mounting bracket on both cars.
There’s no way the bracket was going to fit the way it was so I modified it and mounted it to the long bolt that goes from the timing cover to the intake.
Is it possible that a car with AC has a different PS mounting bracket than a car that doesn’t?

Yes I think that is a stud for the upper timing cover hole. Mine has a nut to hold the timing cover and then a shallow jam nut for the bracket. Bracket nestles right in there like it was made for it. Which I guess it was. Are you sure you have the correct bracket. There are repops available from several sources. Check our sponsors website.

Mine is from Ames. It would fit if the PS bracket wasn’t in the way.
