Borgeson PS boxes -stops

Since F body and A body boxes have different internal stops how do the Borgeson boxes get by without them?

Later first gen F-bodies relied on a positive stop from the steering arm that would contact the lower control arm. I believe all A-bodies had that same design where the stop was built into the steering arms.

I have a box without an internal stop and also don't have steering arms with a positive stop on them. It's never been an issue for me. You can tell pretty easily when the tire contacts the frame. If you're traveling at any real rate of speed and find yourself in that situation, something has gone terribly wrong and a tire contacting a flat frame would be the least of your worries.

I had just heard the F body with internal stops on an A body really shortens turning radius. Fat tires hitting sway bar also limits it on F bodies:)

I think thats pretty much it. Though mine with 235s in front actually contacts the frame before any steering components. And mine is a 67 so it has stops on the control arms/spindles similar to an A body. I cant count the amount of times I'm actually at full stop on the wheel per year on one hand. I have a GTA box Ive been meaning to swap it, but you have to remove the header and Im lazy.

I havent checked this, but Im assuming the borgeson unit would have A body like radius.

With the Fbodies I think they continually got a narrower radius as tires got more aggresive. Cullminating with like the IROC cars that are down to like 64 degrees or something like that. Then again, an IROC definetely handles better than a 1970 Chevelle. So is the extra 5 degrees of turning radius really worth anything?

In short, yes.

In places here you need the tightest turning radius possible - even some of the parking lots demand it.

I have the Borgeson 800130 on my 70 GTO and don't notice any issues.

I would bet the aftermarket box is a carbon copy replacement for a ln a body/JGC box.

It’s 68-later f bodies that are meant to have internal stops that might have issues.

I almost caveats my previous statement to say “except for tight parking situations”. I can see how that would be a problem in Europe with roads designed around horses. I think people swap a 3rd gen box in their early 2nd gen and notice the difference because it’s a direct AB comparison. But if it was born that way I don’t know that you would notice.

Again has anyone gotten into a 1988 IROC and say “man I can’t park this thing!”

Related but unrelated, my wife's C6 GS is horrendous in it's turn radius. My Firebird easily bests it in this regard. But again, the only time you actually notice it is in parking lots.

My 1985 Full sized Bronco could almost do a U turn in 2 lanes!

I had one of the 2012 turbo Buick Regals, that were basically just rebadged Opels. Fun little car, cool to have a Buick with a 6 speed. I couldnt park that thing worth a damn. I always assumed it was just a factor of having a manual trans that you have to work the clutch at low speed. But now I wonder if that thing had a weak turning radius now that you say that.
