The End of the Pontiac Building.
 

With the brilliant decisions that the woman running GM has made lately they might as well just knock all their buildings down, and sell off the real estate.

The 6.2 engine debacle is gonna hurt them badly, maybe it's time to just let the chips fall where they may, and no bailouts this time. Poor management isn't the fault of the US taxpayer.

Agree. The odd part of this is the American public still shows up and buys these vehicles with the 6.2 engines. They have no problem selling them. GM (or any manufacturer) isn’t going to make much of an effort to correct a problem when the public ignores it and keeps buying. The head of GM has stated publicly that their focus is on electric vehicles. She does not care about anything else. So the “top down” attitude throughout the organization is a big “who gives a crap”.

GM is currently rolling out the new Gen VI V8s, so saying they only care about hybrids and electrics is a little bit of a stretch. We know what's important to the CEO, but fortunately she can't rule with 100% authority.

As for losing the building, yeah it sucks. It always sucka losing something that is historic to us and our interests. That said, if you own a large company with many buildings spread out across the world, and one building has been in a state of decay for quite some time, and hasn't had any tenants in 6+ years, it only makes sense to get rid of it.

Keeping the building up and maintained would be a money black hole. We can rip on GM for many things, including massive money mismanagement over the last 25 years, but this isn't an example of that.

Driven by it before, wonder how much asbestos is in the structure?

Probably quite a bit with it being built in 1970, unless it was removed at some point in the past.

Back in the mid to late 80's, I was a member of a local Detroit area Pontiac club, PMD, Pontiac Muscle Car Division. We actually used to have monthly meetings in a conference room there. It was awesome. Several Pontiac employees were also in the club. It was probably why we got the access. It was cool walking through those " hallowed halls".

Pontiac Historic Services started in that building, first on the Financial floor, and then in the basement.
