Why not just get a set of 'shorty' type headers...
Why not just get a set of 'shorty' type headers made locally to suit what you have, or make a set yourself from a SBC weld it up kit but using Pontiac flanges? You could even fab a pair of log type...

You wouldn't go far wrong with Valvoline VR1 20-50 imo. I've used it for years in everything from my race cars, camper van, my Jag road cars, wif'e Toyota, even my sons 4 stroke dirt bikes.
