1964 389 GTO and 326 Tempest engines all had a block mounted starter.

Even the 1964 421 HO that’s in my ‘64 Le Mans convertible...

Pontiac already had the 326 beginning in 1963 with a 3.78” bore (reduced in 1964 to 3.72” for a true 326 instead of 336) using the 3.75” stroke...
