Fan to Rad Distance

I'm wondering if the distance between the fan and rad is too much. Currently at 4" away and I remember once hearing it should be less than 2".
Is there an extension that would move it 2" closer?...

I had 1 that was broken and replaced it and added lots of grease to all the channels. I think that is the main cause of failure, too dry and the vinyl wheels break due to friction

I'm going to get new ones as well as a new seal. Fortunately the timing cover is in pretty good shape. Just a little pitting around the hose neck.
