I compression tested a 350 pontiac cold before I bought it. It averaged 190 psi. The engine was a dog. Again it was used so I don't know how those numbers apply to your engine.

Long block comes with heads on it short block does not.

Most of the 350 heads will swap up until the vortec heads.

long and short water pumps depend on the block itself and what it came with....

I have been beaten in one of my other 350 PONTIAC POWERED LEMANS by a VW TDI. It may be slow in a big car but It would definately get good mileage.

If you swap in a 700r4 or 200r4 instead of the th 350 and stuck with the 400 engine you might end up pretty close with the fuel mileage with the extra gear. Best I could guess anyway.
