You didn't say what year your car is, but if it's a 67 with a console shifter, the neutral safety switch is a 1-year part and has been out of production for years. The old ones aren't rebuildable...

Don't use alcohol.

Alcohol is bad for electronic gear - don't use it. Go to Radio Shack and get a bottle of Caig DE-OXIT. Comes in a spray can and dissolves oxidation on electronic parts. Perfectly safe and won't hurt...
