Many times the foam in those filter setups will get sucked away from the exterior housing and will block the carb inlet. I like the style but they aren't that great performance wise.

Pontiac head bolt holes are supposed to be dry. I've never used any sealant and never had any leaks. Some one must have drilled/tapped/cleaned them and broken into the water jacket.

That's a good possibility. My crossshaft mounts to the block ahead of that point but if you were to move the frame mount for the crossshaft back the you could use a ball mounted at the at point.
