Since the pump is still on the car, I took a tape measure from what appears to be the back of the pump (behind the pulley) to a fuzz beyond the nut at the front and it looks like 3 1/4"....

When you say you "heat up the engine" do you get it to operating temp then spray it on? I can see where that would work only is it a bad idea to introduce cold (water base) to a "hot" engine?...
