Not uncommon in the later version of the 2nd gen tachs. Late 78 thru 81 are the same. Something causing a surge after the ignition is turned off sending the tach to full tilt.

Thanks for the responses. My curiosity is just getting the best of me. If I try it I’d definitely try to clean out the sludge before I give it a go. The again I may never get around to it either lol.

If you’re referring to that “digital clock” plug that’s not for the clock in the tach. In fact, it’s not used in f bodies. The clock wire does terminate in the harmonica.
