John, mine is metal, and I'm pretty sure it's never been replaced. I think CDN2PLS2 nailed it - there were several little inconsistencies in the '72s due to in-line production changes.

Damn, Pat, I paid almost that much for my '72 convertible and it only has the stock 350! It's nice to buy something that's all original, but I wish I had that 455 CID and the hidden killer sound...
