Maybe the metering valve has a broken seal/o-ring or a faulty bore? If the vendor doesn't replace the valve, you may want to take it apart and check the seals. I bought a kit from Musclecar Research...

As long as it doesn't overhang the bore its good. I run a 4.200 and have found to also check to see if it overhangs the combustion chamber on the head.
