The 1950-54 Pontiacs used a flat pan hydro. The 1955-56 Pontiacs used the slant pan hydro. If you put a flat pan hydro to the 55-56 bell housings, the transmission would be slanted like the slant...

This seems kinda dumb, as Pontiac came up with the BOPC pattern in the first place. 61-63 389/421 engines had the BOPC pattern, but no block mounted starter. Some 1964 blocks had block mounted...

64 GTO transmission options

Curious what automatic transmission was offered in a 64 GTO with 389 engine. Would it come with ST300 2 speed? I know that 64 Pontiacs used both Roto 10 and dual coupling hydros in the big cars, and...

Early 1950 Pontiacs

I know of two 1950-52 Pontiacs that might be available. They are just north of the little Kansas town, Admire. If any members are interested, I can find out more.:attention

Did you keep the 347? If so did you use an adapter? The Pontiac engines from 55 to 60 do not have the BOP pattern, except for the two top bolts.

Larry, Don: Thanks for the enhanced explanation of the sprag clutch operation.

I personally don't like sprags for two reasons: 1) weaker than clutch paks 2) another element is needed to keep sprag...

Second: Front sprag free-wheels due to coupling filled (only...

The CC or DC hydramatic used the small coupling as the front clutch. The front sprag worked like the front band did on the early dual range units. The rear sprag took the place of the rear band, with...

Thought the torque converter action (fluid coupling to couple the engine to trans) was done in the small coupling internal to transmission? I think GM called it the accelerotor.:attention

Depending on where the 347 came from, you may need to have the crankshaft drilled for a pilot bushing. The 347 from a Pontiac does not have a pilot bushing when used with the DC hydramatic. This will...
