Great story cheeseburger. I too had a similar life experience. A 78 grad. But I had a 72 Chevelle Malibu, Orange, Black top, black interior. Cloned it into a SS way back in 79. SOld it in 80.
Then came a mid-life crossroads (not a crisis, but…anyway), went looking for a car to bring back my youth and brake into this hobby. Had some extra cash, so the search began. I found the 71 LeMans Convertible on line from a guy in MD. His son & him did a majority of the bodywork & paint already and he need to get rid of it for the space. The 400 auto ran fine, needed a little TLC, Power windows, tilt wood wheel, A/C, a loaded car and he didn’t want much. Looked great, so all I had to do is convince my better half that we should buy it.
“It will give me something to do”…….nothing
, “What about spending that time with me?” was her response
. “It will be fun”….”That’s what you said about having kids” she replied……..“It is an Investment”, that one went over well.
“Ok, how about for every dollar I spend on the car, you can spend at the antique shop” That one worked much better!!!!.
Needless to say, the house is filled with stuff!
We too will long for the good ol days, some commercial on TV will play a SteppenWolf song or such, we look at each other and off we go. Fire up 71, drop the top and away we go to the local Sonic for an ice cream. Now if I could get rid of this gray hair….
