1.) It's been my experience that the vacuum canisters don't work very well. You can do one of several things:
Switch to Rhodes lifters (assuming it's a hydraulic cam...after all this is the street section)
Switch to a smaller diameter power booster (like from a late 70's Firebird)
Install an electric vacuum pump (many "luxury" cars like Buick and Cadillac had them in the 80's...I think the Chevy Cavalier even had them)
Tell us more about your cam specs and just how much vacuum you're getting at idle? I had a roller in my T/A that barely produced 8" of vacuum at idle and the power brakes still worked.
2.) Tell us more about your cooling system. Even a stock 4-row radiator with a stock mechanical fan will be taxed with mild 455 build.
