Hello all, Just rebuilt a 455 for me 72 ho. I didnt get 15 miles on the rebuild and watched the oil pressure drop to 20 at 650 rpm. It was 60 at about 700. Soon after i heard the rod rattle. I pulled the engine and found the oil pump screan coverd with cam lube...??? A spun #7 rod bearing.
And mains that i wont get into. Yes, this is a oiling prob. What happend? Why was the cam lube in the screan? Took the impellers out of the oil pump m-54ds and looks like they were rubbing the sides of the pump. I used engine assembly lube. Im guessing with time the pump clogged with cam lube? Thanks for your time..Terry Harris
