You're right. Didn't happen at the strip either. Even worse than the strip - cruising at 75 MPH on the freeway doing 3000 RPM on the way home from the strip. Couldn't shut it off. Had to drive what seemed like 5 miles before I could pull over.
Ended up pulling the valve covers, removing what was left of the studs, nuts, rocker arms and pivot balls, along with the pushrod from both of the offending spots, (an exhaust on the passenger side, an intake on the driver's side), putting the covers back on, and limping the other 25 miles home.
