it has several ways to position the starter. i have it lined up to the one i want. the problem is when the starter is bolted to the block the gear that turns the starter needs to move forward (twards the flywheel) about 5/16". it looks like it would line up perfectly. i tried to pull the "gear" out and it will come out about 2" then it will go right back in. as it is being pulled out it is turning. is this normal ?
