Yes it would. Cadillac introduced the OHV V8 in 1949. With or without the SBC, GM would have a current OHV V8. The fact that LS1 is a clean sheet of paper design only further substantiates that it's ancestory is more towards Cadillac than any other GM division.

That is a Mach I, and it's one of those venerable 105 HP versions that represent 50% of all years the Mach I was produced.
