Thanks a bunch for the replies guys. I'm going to try it.

Another question: my original dash is badly sunbaked and extremely brittle - moderate pressure from a single finger can easily crack right through it on top. Do you think I will have issues with stability/adhesion with the plastic cap, with it breaking pieces of the old dash away from the foam core along the top edge? Or should it stay together OK? Anyone glued on onto a snap-crackle-pop old dash like mine?
