I have a 67' Cat with a 400/400 and the gear selection is P-R-N-D-S-L ( Super being 2nd gear forward, and Low being First gear Forward ). When I put the car in Drive and proceed at low speed 10-30 mph I hear a squealing noise that seems to be coming from the front end of the car, when I put it in Super the noise is still there but only once in a while. The noise only happens when I'm at slow speeds or slowing down to make a stop. I've been told that it is my universal joint and that it needs to be greased, I'm not sure if this is correct and also how to apply the grease. The sound, sounds sort of like a Turkey call, the scratch board type, and also sounds like metal rubbing together. I need to correct this problem for one because I know metal to metal rubbing can't be good, and two it's embarressing as hell. The car is a four door, I wish it was a two door but hey I only paid $900.00 for it and except for alittle mechanical problems here and there and some minor body work that needs to be taken care of ( very little body work, mainly rocker panel crap and wheel well stuff ) the car looks great. The interior, except for afew tears-on passenger front side of bench seat and top of back seat and needing a new package tray is in great shape. The car attracts everyones attention when I'm going down the street and gets many of thumbs up! Please help !!!
