I did the same using a '71 Monte Carlo system for my '64. I purchased a used smaller power booster for $35 and had it rebuilt and plated. There are at least two different length rods that come out of the booster and attach to the brake pedal depending on car model and year. If I remember correctly, I had to change out the rod on the used 9" booster. Check this out before restoring the booster.
