There is no postive benefit in using a higher octane fuel than is needed to prevent detonation; and, in fact, there may be a negative effect, as many refiners use ethanol (less energy per gallon) to boost octane.
If you have ping or detonation, use the higher octane; else, use the lower octane and spend your money on other items.
