Think about going to an electric elec. choke. I think they gotem at adv auto pts. or the zone etc. Just ask for one for the 1980 pontiac qjet 17080272, it comes with a new spring. Remove heat transfer tube, remove old cover and spring watching how it goes back together(mainly where the spring goes), then reassemble, its easy,, then adj. choke and power it up ..drive....
that simple!!
