CompCam is a huge company that successfully designs and builds cams and valve train components for millions of performance applications. I have the 995-16's in my over 6,000 rpm 428 and have no problems.
Your guy is telling you not to use them and it does not matter if he wrong, to help him stand behind his work go with his recommendation... springs is a small part of an engine build.
