Welcome to the Forums.

If the engine is newly rebuilt, clearances are proably tight and a little extra heat is normal. Verify the actual temp with a calibrated or IR guage, and 180 degrees + or minus 10 degrees is good.

Most folks on the board favor Q-jets for the best economy/performance balance. I recommend that you go to Cliff Ruggles, a regular poster here for a properly setup Q-Jet for that 400.
