By the time you build one strong enough to take slicks, you could have bought yourself a Tremec . . .

If you are just running around on street tires, get the Muncie. Keep in mind, though, that the M-21 ratios are ridiculously narrow compared to modern transmissions. I wouldn't bother with it unless you are going to install 3.73 gears or lower in the rearend. The first gear on a Muncie M-21 is a very tall 2.2. You do the math.

You might be better of with an M-20, which has a first gear of 2.52. I have one with a 3.55 gear, and it drove very nice with a torquey, mild 455. The ratios STILL seem too close, though, if you are used to modern transmissions.

I think the new Tremec TKO 600 has a 2.66 first gear, but a .64 overdrive. That would run very nice with rear gears in the 3.73 to 4.30 range.
