I'm not a firebird man but the oil light will be on when the key is on. Gen light should be too. why? no oil pressure/no charging... the temp light if seperate will light as you turn to start just as a bulb check. Unless like my Catalina, you have the cold/hot light. in that case the cold light will be also lit. I know that your birds didn't have these. If you have gauges then the lights would work differant.
