I bought a '68 reproduction A/C dash pad several years ago and the fit was horrible. It had a fiberglass core and when I got it the whole thing was warped. I had to do quite a bit of dremel work to get the vents to fit. Once I got it installed there were gaps between the dash and the pad up to 1/2" in certain spots.
I sent pictures of the modifications and fit to Ames and it was so bad they refunded my money and pulled the dash pad from their catalogs. It looks like PY is still selling this dash pad with some warning about the work required. I can post pics of the problem areas and modifications I had to make if anyone is interested.
If you have a '68 A/C car I'd recommend spending $100 on the cover or shelling out the big bucks for the Just Dashes treatment. It sounds like the non A/C pad is a lot better.
