When you say plates it leads me to believe you are talking about the upper sheetmetal parts. The baffle pan is bolted to the lower valance panel (splash panel). The 400 cars had to have the baffle panel in order to cool properly, the lower powered firebirds did not have the baffle panels from the factory. The baffle panel is a must have part for proper cooling of a hi performance engine. The factory baffle panel's were stamped sheet metal with a lip that resembles a spoiler for strength and looks...
