Scott-
No I don't mind you asking who I am, since I don't post on this board often, many of you won't know, but I don't have to show off time slips to get attention. But that in itself is no reason to try to make it out like I am a nobody just to make yourself look better. You wanna know what I am about ask like a gentleman. Comments like yours and the "I'm the man" attitude is the reason why. I stay low key for these reasons because I don't get caught up in the soap opera that goes on, as well as who is better than who, the critics, etc... Way too many chef's in here. Besides the fact I am too busy to be on a computer checking in every minute of the day knockin guys for supporting people. As you can see by the time of this post, this is when my day is done so excuse the fact that my time in the shop is more important than trying to be an internet hero and not because i need to lose sleep typing this. You didn't seem to have a problem years ago when I would post on your website giving advice and helpin out the people who visited your site. But I guess you got too good for most because your car runs good. I don't feel I have to explain myself to you or anyone, no matter how unprofessional or personal your post was. It seems to me that you took my supporting of ALLPPONTIAC personal? Whos problem is that? Not mine...I made a post supporting someone who I have worked with in the past, have gotten to know Bob and Frank very well even before ALLPONTIAC was even out and you take it personal, and in return make a personal comment towards me as to who I am? Well lets get into this shall we? Scott, don't worry, my professionalism towards these kinds of remarks will far exceed yours, and will not get personal, nor will I explain myself to you. Just wanted to answer some of your questions that you seem to be haveing a hissy fit over, and because I know you deal with Bob and Frank, so out of respect for them Im not about to get caught up in this and make this a pissing match, as you have seemed to lose sleep over what I wrote. So I will politely answer some of your questions in the order you have asked, wether you really wanna know, or just being sarcastic and have the ego problem people get because they feel threatened that there is somone else they can learn from, so they have to try to belittle someone or their business to make themself look better.Ready Scott, this could get lengthy, you asked alot of questions, but for you, cus you seemed to have goten a little upset, Ill try to get them all.***Warning, to those other than Scott, it may put you to sleep at the length I had to go to defend my self and my business, so don't read this late at night.
"Joe, if you don't mind me asking, who are you?"
Hi Scott, my name is Joe. I recently started Maximum Race Engines, where we specialize in Pontiac, yet build any make engine, from street to all out race. I have been in the business for over 10 years, although up until recently, I have built engines for other companies, I felt it was time to go on my own, and make a name for myself, rather than useing the other names I have worked for.
"What high horsepower Pontiac engines have you built?(or any other brand)"
Hmmmm...This is another one of those ego questions you guys have to ask to try and see how much better you are, Not playin this game. I have nothing to prove to you or anyone else. My customers know who they are, and they are not for you to be concerned with.
"I can't find anyone who knows who you are. I look on your website under customer's cars and see mostly street type Chevys and a 4 cylinder Pontiac... I tried Yahoo and Google and got nothing."
Gee, if you go to question 1 you will see the part where I mentioned, ...."I recently started...." Therefore you won't find anything.Never said I was most well know person on the internet..And since when do you have to have 2000 hits on a search of someone to be someone? Do you run a business? If so, how was it in the begining? People heard of you? trying to make a name for yourself? Tryin to get business? That is how it works. I have business from past customers from working for people that come to me because of what I can do for them as well as new customers every week. Not bad for a so called nobody huh? Because YOU never heard of me, then I must be a nobody! That explains it. Yes I do alot of engines for street racers. Is that my only business? No. Do I have alot on the track? Yes, but again Mr. Rex, please refer to answer one, where I have worked for other companies for many years, and when you build engines for someone elses company, you don't get to put your own name on the car...I also have alot of experience other aspects of a car and not just engines. Yes I am an engine guy, but I have done many cars setting up every other area, so I am not ignorant when it comes to the whole combination nor do I have tunnel vision syndrome. Yes , I love Pontiacs, and have for 15 years. I specialize in them because that is what I like doing. But if I did just Pontiacs for a living I would be broke, due to the overwhelming amount of Pontiac experts who get their panties in a bunch when someone they don't know comes along or critisizes everything being done for them without knowing what the facts are. Recently starting a business does not mean just starting out in the business...Look I am not out to set the world on fire, or compete with anyone, includeing yourself.I happen to get along with a few well known Pontiac builders on here and support them as well. I don't have the "Im the best Pontiac builder" attitude nor do I knock anyone who tries to help out. I do what I do because I love to do it, and if I can make money at what I love to do, then I will. It's none of my business what you or anyone else does. I tend to focus on those that come to me and want to do business.. Who they are and what I can do or have done is no concerne to you since you seem to have everything under control. All the power to you. As far as my website? Please Scott, can you grab anymore things out of thin air? If you noticed on the bottom of the main page, it states copyrighted 2004, that in laymens terms means that I just started it, and Don't have a whole lot of time on the computer to be updating everyday. If you also can read the scrolling message stating that they are only SOME of the stuff I have done that I may just have pictures of that I can get up on the site. Running a business is hard enough, but haveing to manage a website and keep it current with everything I have done is impossible. My site is not up to show off, but to just show a little and put up what I can. But again, according to you, I must be a nobody since I have 6 pictures on my site...Funny that I don't see anybodies cars or engines you have done on your site with the exception of your own. Am I knockin you? No. Maybe you don't post them up, who knows.I don't know, so therefore I keep my comments to myself...
"How many sets of Super Chief heads have you ported and put on a motor?"
Not many since I have talked people out of them. Were they a good idea at the time? Yes. But not many people have that kind of money to soak in a set of heads that were not very reliable. Maybe you have a set you don't have to maintain..Lucky you.But I know you have had problems with them along with many who run them. But My name is far more important to me then talking someone into spending tons of money in a set heads that have to be checked out all the time, or with hopes that they are not pourous internally, maybe have a set fall out,or a part that I don't feel comfortable using on my engines, etc..Because I don't have 10 guys running A Super Chief, that doesn't make me a nobody, just to the guys who had no choice but to put tons of money in them to get them to work. I am not speaking badly about anything, just my professional opinion which I am entitled to when it comes to otehr people's hard earned money. My customers tend to like reliability, and although racing is hard on parts as we all know, haveing to take a bare set of heads and have alot of hours in machine work and time invested just to bolt them on, not including parts or porting, is just not worth it to them, then who am I to spend other people'e money aimlessly...Why so I can brag about a head that is still nowhere near enough to feed any real size engine to make real power? Should we ask how much time and money you have invested? No, because it is nobodies business but yours, so therefore there are more comments we should keep to ourselves...Don't need to brag about how many sets of Super Chiefs I have done or used when it is irrelevent
"How many have you even seen?"
Enough to know it is not worth the time and effort..Good enough? If not see answer above.
"How can you make a statement like "This head will have no competition. The design of this head far exceeds the Super Chiefs and the quality will be excellent." What proof do you have to back this up?"
Very easily. Although I sense a snippy attitude like you take this personal also because you run them, and don't like the fact that someone who doesn't have a big name in your eyes, like maybe you on this board, making a statement like that, but it doesn't mean I don't feel that this new product will be the product to have. My post was not towards you in anyway. You have good luck with them, then great. Nobody doubted your ability or how fast you go or how much money you have soaked into your combination..so don't knock my experience or my ability to know what is going to work and what is not. You don't know what I have done, or where I have been enough to make statements and remarks like you do. I don't feel I have to upstage anyone to make it known what I have done. I am not a glory hound, so what I have done in the past and what I continue to still do doesn't need to be mentioned. I don't mind not getting credit for alot of stuff, just knowing I had hands in something is enough for me. I know the know -it- alls and gloryhounds need that kind of recognition. I know what I know, and if you want to become a customer, then you will find that out first hand, if not, that is fine to. You seem to know everything so why would you want to, right? I don't showboat around, I would rather people come to me on what they have seen or heard then what I can sell them. Too many salesmen in the sport. As for the proof..all in due time. I deserve the right to make my own name for myself, and haveing the ego and attitude you have, and have given, is not how I go about things.
"If this head is so great, why did DCI, after claiming how wonderful this head is, try for years now to make it happen, then just sell the whole deal outright before even one set is on a running engine?"
Although I don't speak for other people, did you ever stop to think how much time, MONEY and effort ( did I mention MONEY?) Goes into makeing something like this? You think anyone who does anything for the Pontiac hobbiest is going to make millions on what they produce?? Let alone lose business because of the time they have invested in the project that they are not getting paid for? C'mon Scott I thought you were smarter than that. Don's businesss is Don's business, but I have spoken to him at great lengths about the head, what it is capable of and what the problem seems to be and the problems he was haveing was not his doing, but in fact were because he relied on someone to give hime what he needed to make it happen, and that just couldn't be done, and after realizing you won't make millions on something that you are trying to produce for maybe 30% of the raceing community, well he seeked other alternatives.Does that mean the head is junk? I don't see anyone else stepping to the plate. Everyone is an engine builder or a critic, they like to talk about rumors of what they heard or read, but nobody finds out the truth. Now knowing what type of business men Bob and Frank are, I know what they can do, and haveing had input in the past as well as current, trying to help them in anyway I can, I know that what comes of it will be the way to go. Not just because I have input, since I am a nobody in your eyes, but because I do this for a living and seem to have confidence in myself enough to be able to know what will or won't work to make power. That is my business. Do I get the credit for haveing input? No, but who cares, I don't thrive on it. They know and I know, and that is all that matters to me.I don't need the credit, I just want the availability of parts that are needed to do what we love to do.
""This cylinder head raises the bar for normally aspirated power..." How can you raise the bar if you're not even in the game?"
What game is that Scott? I am curious. Oh you mean just the statement I wrote in support of those that are doing more than anyone for the Pontiac racer? Or the fact that I firmly believe that the head will be tons better than what is currently available? Do I need to run 7.60's to know that or be the guy that makes you run 7.60's? Yes I feel it will raise the bar for guys that want to make alot of power normally aspirated. Pontiacs have always been limited to the size of the port. Who cares what they flow. The port is just too dam small. Why is it that you have a million dollar set of Super Chiefs? Because they flow the most or because they have bigger ports than what is available? Pontiacs can use the port volume, especially in a race engine with some cubic inch. If you could get a set of Edelbrocks to "flow" your 400 or 410cfm at their 280+cc runner would you run them instead of your 320cc or so 410 fully hogged Super Chief? For the guys who build their engines to flow numbers, the DCI head has already seen 435 out of the box, well ok with a valve job and a little tiny cleanup. No heavy porting, welding ,epoxy, or anything. I have spoken to Don since he is the one who was the originator of the design, and have gone over what I would like to see in a head, and he assured me it is all there. But don't worry I will have my own testing as well, other than the buildup that is in the works. Sucks to see a nobody like myslef get some attention instead of the real guys like yourself that are internet popular. If you can do some testing as well that is great! You run alot, your fast, your a good driver, and you already have a decent combination these heads with the correct work done will work with. If you have the chance then great. The more the merrier. If everyone worked together and supported each other, instead of haveing just little bracket cliques you can be surprised what we could do. But since the Pontiac raceing community is not very large unfortuneatley, everyone is striving to be the best and thats when egos come into play, and that is what I won't have any part of.Everyone has their own way of doing things, but I have seen so many guys at the track and have spoken to some and I see the ego problems they have talking to people like they are not worthy of their time becuase they don't go as fast as them.Hence another reason why I don't post on here. I help anyone period. I am here to help, and if supporting some guys that are trying to make it happen bothers you or anyone, just because YOU never heard of me ( when I know you have) since I don't get thousands of hits under a search engine, then so be it.
""Preliminary testing shows this head will be the one to own for maximum power." What testing method is this? Dyno? Flowbench? Tarot cards?"
Everyone loves a comedian, or is that a jester..Stick to driving, your much better at it than the comedy. Preliminary testing means just that. You have to walk before you can run. Did you always run 7.60's or did you work your way up to it? Testing does take place to see some potential. Sucks taht nobodies like myself get first hand information before the guru's do. But again, I am just here to support friends like you. But to be honest, yes flowbench testing, which is not the power maker, but a good way to get a good comparison. The dyno will be all in due time.
"The Tiger head may be a great thing and I'd be happy to test a set out for Bob and Frank, but let's get a set on a running engine before we start celebrating and "holding up" our engine plans."
I am sure you would be happy to "test" a set out for them. Who wouldn't? Here is a $? thousand dollar set of heads for you to just use..who would not take them up on that. If they do and you can do it, then by all means..then you can say you were the first and get more praises like u do when you feel the need to post a time slip like it is supposed to make us all googly eyed and drool over the fact you have a very expensive setup that SHOULD run fast! Nobody said you weren't making power, but jees, enough of the "hey everyone look at me" attitude just because they have the money to support it. Don't knock the people with less money, doesn't mean they can accomplish what you or alot of guys can, just means they can't afford to. As far as getting a set on a runing engine goes, I think we all know that is the ultimate way of testing, and I think that it will be accomplished one way or another. But when a product has the capabilities to make the power, and a CASTING FLAW holds that product up it doesn't make the product any less worthy of getting hyped up or getting recognition. Certain engine builders happen to know what it takes to make power, that is why there are so many parts available for every make engine. I don't think Bob and Frank are in the market for empty promises. Do you? I didn't think so, so instead of trying to impress with your flashy timeslip, why not support what is going on, instead of this i'll believe it when I see it attitude.
See Scott I told you it would be lengthy. Hope this answers just some of your questions, but please, feel free to post more, since im sure you wont be able to not have the last word. And by all means, none of this is being said with any kind of attitude or unprofessionalism, nor is it a personal attack on you or what you are trying to do. All of this had to be said in kind of defense of myself to the people you tried to make me look like a fool in front of. I never had a problem with you, but have seen how you are, especially to one of my guys at the Atco race who may have been trying to congratulate you or compliment you on your car, but when they get a dirty look or an attitude, as if to say " Who are you and what have you done?"...Sound familiar? Keep up the good work and hopefully these heads will make a believer out of you and everyone else...all in due time I guess.
