I had a leaky rear main on my last 455 too. So last ditch effort before pulling the engine I dropped my pan, got the old seal out, sprayed carb cleaner in the groove to clean it, loaded the new viton seal with silicone on the back, a little oil on the lip and slid her up around and let her sit over night. Said a prayer and fired the next day. No leak. BOP Viton, the only way to go.
