Dude... Sounds like trouble! What about drilling and tapping a hole into the head? I know that the brackets are way different for 68, and you might end up having to change your timing cover/water pump in order to facilitate 68 brackets due to the difference in water pump snout lengths. I'm assuming that the 70 brackets were drilled to fit a 68 head but accomodated the longer pump snout for the pulley alignment.
